Look what the Lord has done! In May 2015, I walked through the doors of the Hoving Home in a last-ditch effort to get my life on track. I had been in addiction for over 12 years and my life was a mess.
I had two parents who loved me very much. When I was 9 years old, my mother died of breast cancer and life as I knew it was over. The death of my mom left me with a huge hole in my heart. I can remember drinking my cough medicine with codeine because I liked the way it made me feel. I did not know that it was a drug at that age. By the time I reached high school I was a full-fledged alcoholic. I would wake up very early so that I could drink before going to school. I experimented with many drugs during that time of my life. When I got to college I met the love of my life, heroine. Over the course of the next 10 years, it destroyed my life.
When I came to the Hoving Home I was looking for love and approval. I found both in the arms of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am forever grateful that God chose to rescue me. I look forward to seeing how God is moving in all of the ladies lives. I do not see it as work, but a privilege to be a part of their transformation.
One of my favorite verses is: “I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.” Psalm 16:8
