Biography
I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, and I will be 63 years old this year. I have been on my own since the age of 11, learning early how to survive in a world that often felt overwhelming. I met the father of my children who was 13 at the time ,introduced me to drugs and alcohol. That path led to deep pain and loss. At 12 years old, I became pregnant and had a Miss carriage, an experience that devastated me, as I longed to be a mother like everyone else around me.
As the years passed, I worked several jobs, but most of my efforts went toward supporting my addiction. I did not realize then how important stability and Social Security would be later in life. My addiction led me in and out of jail more than 125 times and into prison four times. During my last prison sentence, I became deeply depressed and did not even want to be released.
When I was finally released, my youngest daughter, Myisha—a strong Christian—picked me up from the probation office and took me into her home. After two weeks, I asked her to help me find a program. She found Hoving Home. I did not know it was a faith-based program until I arrived, but once I realized God was at the center of it, I knew I was going to be okay.
I completed the program, then attended Bible college at TCMI in South Gate, California. After graduating, I returned to Las Vegas for a six-month internship, then went back to California for another internship, where I began my first part-time job as a supervisor. Later, I moved to New York and served for two years as a facility coordinator.
Today, I am a facility coordinator in Rose Hill, North Carolina. My desire is to continue seeking God and growing closer to Him, trusting His plans for my life—not my own. The scripture that guides me is Matthew 6:33:
“Seek first the kingdom of God.”
