Carrying More Than Anyone Could See

Lois’ Hoving Home recovery story begins long before she ever walked through our doors. From an early age, Lois learned what it meant to survive.

Her childhood was marked by painful experiences that followed her into adulthood.
Later, she found herself in a violent marriage, carrying wounds she had never truly
had the opportunity to heal from.

Yet Lois kept going.

She poured herself into church, ministry, and helping other people. From the outside,
she was serving, encouraging others, and doing what she could to hold everything together.

Inside, she was hurting.

Over time, the weight became harder and harder to carry.

When the Pain Became Too Much

Eventually, Lois began turning to alcohol as a way to escape what she was feeling.

She doesn’t describe drinking as a lifestyle. For Lois, alcohol became a way to numb
the pain and, ultimately, a way to hurt herself.

“When I drank, it was more to escape. I wasn’t living a lifestyle as someone that drank.
I was really trying to hurt myself.”

At one of the darkest points of her life, Lois drank so much that she was hospitalized
and could not be awakened for three days.

She had reached a place where she was losing hope.

But God had not lost sight of Lois.

Lois’ Hoving Home Recovery Story

Following that crisis, Lois’s church helped connect her with Hoving Home.

She arrived carrying far more than what could be seen on the surface.

For so long, Lois had focused on caring for other people. At Hoving Home, she finally
had the opportunity to step away from everything around her and begin dealing with
what was happening inside of her.

It became a place where she could heal.

A place where she could be cared for.

And, most importantly, a place where she could draw close to Jesus again.

Healing wasn’t one dramatic moment for Lois. It became a daily decision.

At Hoving Home, she was surrounded by prayer, God’s Word, structure, and women who
walked alongside her. She began learning to care for herself again instead of continually
pouring from an empty place.

Day by day, Lois surrendered what she had been carrying to God.

And something began changing.

Falling in Love With Jesus Again

Lois had known God before Hoving Home. She had been involved in church and ministry.

But this season became deeply personal.

“I fell in love with Jesus all over again at Hoving Home.”

As Lois spent time seeking the Lord, she began rediscovering the relationship with Him
that had been buried beneath so much pain.

Her circumstances hadn’t erased God’s love for her.

Her darkest moment hadn’t disqualified her.

There was still a future ahead.

A Life of Purpose

Today, Lois’ life looks very different from the life she once thought she might lose.

She continues to pursue the Lord, serve others, and use her life and experiences to make
a difference. Her journey has taken her into new places and given her opportunities to
serve, travel, create, and experience things she once may not have imagined for herself.

The woman who once wanted to escape her life is now living it with purpose.
